PLANNED GIVING
Your decision to remember PVSS in your will, estate plan or other long-range financial arrangement is one of the strongest statements you can make and most decisive actions you can take to end family homelessness. Your gift will support our efforts to provide families with a path to a stable, self-sufficient futures in the long-term.
Wills and Living Trusts
A gift in your will is a meaningful way to support PVSS. It is also a simple, flexible and affordable way to help families affected by homelessness in your community.
You can complete your gift by including just one sentence in your will:
“I give to Pajaro Valley Shelter Servcies, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 115 Brennan Street, Watsonville, CA 93940, or its successor thereto, ______________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted use and purpose.”
Because your gift is not realized until after your lifetime, it costs you nothing today. Finally, if your life or financial circumstances change, you can amend your gift or change your mind at any time.
Real Estate
Want to make a big gift to PVSS without touching your bank account? Consider giving us real estate. Such a generous gift has an impact for years to come. You can deed the property directly to PVSS or ask your attorney to add a few sentences in your will or trust agreement.
Donor Advised Funds
Are you looking for an easy, cost-effective way to support PVSS and other causes you care about? A donor advised fund may be the right option for you.
Here’s how it works: you transfer cash or other assets to a tax-exempt sponsoring organization such as a public foundation. You can then recommend—but not direct—how much and how often money is granted to PVSS and other qualified organizations.
In return, you qualify for a federal income tax charitable deduction at the time you contribute to the account. This also allows for a centralized giving and record-keeping system in one location, and you avoid the cost and complexities of managing a private foundation.
Beneficiary Designations
In just a few minutes, you can make a lasting impact at PVSS and it won’t affect your current budget. Simply name PVSS as a beneficiary of one of your assets, such as the following:
- IRAs or retirement plan
- Life insurance policy
- Commercial annuity
It only takes three steps to make this type of gift. Here’s how to name PVSS as a beneficiary:
- Contact your retirement plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution for a change-of-beneficiary form.
- Decide what percentage (1 to 100) you would like PVSS to receive and name us, along with the percentage you chose, on the beneficiary form.
- Return the completed form to your plan administrator, insurance company, bank or financial institution.
Endowed Gifts
An endowment gift to PVSS today helps us advance our mission, ensuring our work with families endures. When you make a donation to our endowment, you give a gift with both immediate and long-term benefits.
Here’s how it works: Endowment donations are invested. A portion of the annual income from the investment is used to address immediate needs at PVSS. The remaining funds are reinvested to ensure indefinite support—and change the lives of future generations.
